Barbara F. Anderson

I am a transplanted New Yorker and have been in private practice here in San Francisco since 1993. I have worked for various agencies such as Jewish Family Service in New Jersey and the Department of Public Health here in San Francisco. I am an active member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health and am a Diplomate in the National Association of Social Workers. I am a columnist for Devil Woman, the newsletter published by Diablo Valley Girls, an organization serving the social and educational needs of the transgender population, their families and friends. Additionally, I have published several chapters in professional texts as well as in consumer publications. As part of my licensure requirements, I take courses to keep my knowledge of the field current, present professional papers in my areas of expertise, sit on doctoral committees and supervise colleagues. I live with my husband and adopted dog, Madeline. I enjoy traveling, visiting kids and grandchildren and am involved in many volunteer activities such as teaching the frail elderly in a nursing home, acting as Deputy Marriage Commissioner, gardening in neighborhood parks and distributing food at a local free farm stand.
